SpaceX Q2 Revenue Soars 92%, Driven by Starlink and AI

Share:

SpaceX has announced a significant leap in its financial performance, with second-quarter revenue climbing an impressive 92% year-over-year to $7.8 billion. This figure notably exceeds the consensus market expectation of $6.93 billion, marking a strong start for the aerospace giant in its first earnings report as a public company. The robust revenue growth was propelled by significant advancements in two key segments: Starlink, the company's satellite internet service, and its artificial intelligence (AI) business.

Starlink, a primary financial engine for SpaceX, demonstrated substantial growth, with revenue rising 66% year-over-year to $4.29 billion. The satellite internet unit now serves 12 million subscribers globally, doubling its user base from the previous year and expanding into 167 countries. Meanwhile, the AI segment witnessed an extraordinary surge, with revenue skyrocketing 247% year-over-year to $2.56 billion. This rapid expansion in AI is a key focus for CEO Elon Musk's vision of building an AI-first business.

Despite the revenue success, SpaceX reported a net loss of $541 million, or $0.09 per share, which was narrower than the previous year's loss. The company is making substantial investments in its Starship project and expanding its satellite network, contributing to increased capital expenditures. Investors are closely monitoring the balance between this heavy investment and the company's ability to translate AI spending into future profitability. SpaceX ended the quarter with $100 billion in cash and cash equivalents and a total backlog of $47.5 billion.

The company's foray into digital assets also caught attention, with SpaceX holding 18,712 Bitcoin on its balance sheet, valued at approximately $1.3 billion as of March 31, framing it as a strategic cash reserve. While the stock experienced some pressure following the IPO and lock-up expiration, the strong Q2 results indicate significant momentum across its core business areas.
