The WNBA is trending due to the recent arrival of the Toronto Tempo, marking the league's expansion into Canada. The Tempo's debut represents a significant milestone for Canadian basketball, offering a long-awaited professional avenue for female athletes in the country. This expansion not only provides visibility and opportunity but also aims to inspire pride and passion in fans from coast to coast.

The Toronto Tempo played their first game on Wednesday, April 30, 2026, against the Connecticut Sun at Coca-Cola Coliseum. Although they lost 83-78, Kia Nurse made history by scoring the first basket for the team. The team will play its home games at Coca-Cola Coliseum, with the potential for games to be played at Scotiabank Arena and across Canada.

Owned by Kilmer Sports Ventures, led by Larry Tanenbaum, the Tempo are the WNBA's 14th franchise and the first outside the United States. Tanenbaum, also Chairman of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, hopes the Tempo will emulate the Toronto Raptors in fostering a national identity. The team is committed to building a state-of-the-art practice facility dedicated to both the team and community initiatives. The arrival of the Tempo is expected to drive growth, investment, and participation in women's basketball across Canada.
