Target Corporation has reported its second-quarter fiscal 2026 financial results, demonstrating a strong performance that exceeded market expectations. The retail giant announced net sales of $26.54 billion, a 5.3 percent increase year-over-year, topping the consensus forecast of $26.13 billion. This growth was fueled by a comparable sales increase of 3.8 percent, with notable strength in both store sales (up 2.7 percent) and digital sales (up 8.7 percent).
The company's profitability also saw a significant boost. Second-quarter operating income reached $2.6 billion, a substantial increase from $1.3 billion in the prior year, partly due to a $994 million benefit from tariff refunds received during the quarter. On a per-share basis, Target reported a net income of $4.11, with adjusted earnings of $2.46 per share, surpassing the analyst consensus of $2.30 per share. The company has also updated its full-year guidance, now expecting net sales growth around 5 percent and an operating income margin rate around 6 percent.
Target's strategic focus on value, convenience, and an elevated shopping experience appears to be resonating with consumers. The company highlighted growth across all six core merchandising categories, with double-digit growth in "Fun101" and high single-digit growth in Food & Beverage and Beauty. Investments in same-day fulfillment services, such as Drive Up and Order Pickup, continue to drive digital sales, with same-day delivery seeing over 25 percent growth.
Looking ahead, Target anticipates full-year earnings per share to be in the range of $9.90 to $10.90. This updated outlook reflects confidence in the company's strategy and its ability to navigate the dynamic retail landscape, building on the positive momentum from the first half of the year.
