Global stock markets rallied Monday, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite leading the charge, surging over 3% as investors reacted positively to the announcement of a preliminary peace agreement between the United States and Iran. The deal, which is expected to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, has eased geopolitical concerns and injected a wave of optimism into financial markets.

In tandem with the stock market's ascent, oil prices experienced a significant drop. Brent crude futures fell nearly 5% to trade around $83 a barrel, reaching their lowest level since early March. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude, the U. S. benchmark, also saw a decline of approximately 5%. This drop in oil prices is a direct consequence of the anticipated reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for global energy supplies, which had been disrupted by the recent conflict.

The positive market reaction is palpable across various sectors. Technology stocks, which had been sensitive to economic uncertainties, saw a notable rebound. Companies like Micron Technology and Advanced Micro Devices were among the top performers on the Nasdaq. The easing of inflation fears, driven by lower energy costs, also prompted investors to shift back into riskier assets, including cyclical stocks and small-cap companies. The Federal Reserve's stance on interest rates is also being closely watched, with expectations tempering for a rate hike this year as inflation pressures potentially subside.

While the preliminary agreement signals a significant de-escalation, analysts caution that thornier issues, such as Iran's nuclear program, remain to be addressed in subsequent talks. The formal signing of the memorandum of understanding is scheduled for later this week in Geneva. Nevertheless, the immediate impact has been a broad-based market relief, with a hopeful outlook for renewed global trade and economic stability.
