The Nasdaq Composite has flashed a rare bullish signal, indicating that a fresh rally may be poised to commence. This technical indicator, which has appeared only a few times in the Nasdaq's history, has historically been followed by significant gains in the market. The tech-heavy index has experienced a streak of four consecutive trading days with gains exceeding 1%, a pattern that has occurred only 17 times since the index's inception in 1971, according to Bespoke Investment Group analysis.
Historically, when the Nasdaq Composite has flashed this signal, it has typically delivered above-average returns over the subsequent 12 months, with an average gain of 29%. Further strengthening the bullish case, the index remains within 5% of its 52-week high. In instances where the signal appeared while the index was near its peak, median 1-year returns have exceeded 40%. This suggests that the recent rotation, which had previously weighed on the tech sector, may be reversing.
The Nasdaq 100 also recently experienced a significant daily surge of 3.32%, a move that ranks among the top 10 most bullish days for the index in the past decade, according to Nations Indexes. This broad-based rally, not concentrated in a few stocks, indicates strong positive momentum. The tech sector has seen renewed interest, with many of the prominent "Magnificent Seven" stocks showing gains. Furthermore, the Nasdaq 100 has reclaimed its 50-day moving average, a key technical level closely watched by investors.
