Intel Corporation has announced an upsized stock offering, now targeting $20 billion, a substantial increase from its initially planned $15 billion. This move by the semiconductor leader is aimed at bolstering its ongoing turnaround strategy and expanding its manufacturing capabilities, particularly in light of the surging demand driven by artificial intelligence compute investments.
The offering was priced at $95 per share, representing a 6.5% discount to its previous Friday closing price, a move that typically aims to attract investors despite the dilution of existing shares. Intel is offering 210.5 million shares, with an option for underwriters to purchase an additional 31.6 million shares. The net proceeds are expected to reach approximately $19.7 billion, which Intel intends to allocate to general corporate purposes, including capital expenditures and working capital.
This significant capital raise comes as Intel's stock has seen a notable recovery, nearly tripling in value year-to-date, fueled by investor confidence in its strategic initiatives to regain its dominant position in the chipmaking industry. However, the announcement of the offering initially caused a dip in share price, with the stock falling over 4% on Monday before a slight recovery in aftermarket trading. Major financial institutions, including J. P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Citigroup, are acting as joint book-running managers for this offering, signaling broad market participation. The transaction is anticipated to close on August 12, 2026.
