Gulf Markets Climb on Oil Price Surge Amid Iran Sanction Fears

Share:

Gulf stock markets concluded Sunday's trading session on an upward trajectory, driven by a concurrent rise in international oil prices. The optimism in the region's bourses appears to be directly linked to escalating concerns over potential United States economic sanctions targeting Iran and its key trading nations.

Brent crude oil settled at $94.39 a barrel by Friday, reflecting the market's sensitivity to geopolitical developments. The United States and Iran have exchanged strong rhetoric ahead of an anticipated announcement of new U. S. sanctions, which could significantly impact Iran and major trade partners, including China. This standoff has amplified expectations of a tightening global crude supply.

Saudi Arabia's benchmark index saw a notable gain of 1.1%, with strong performance from its materials and financial sectors. Al Rajhi Bank advanced by 2.1%, while Saudi Arabian Mining gained 4%. The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia experienced a significant surge of 9.5%, reaching its highest closing price in two decades.

Qatar's benchmark index also edged higher, posting a 0.1% gain. Advancements in communications, financial, energy, and materials stocks supported the index. Qatar National Bank, the region's largest lender, rose by 1.6%, and Qatar Gas Transport added 1.5%. These movements underscore the interconnectedness of geopolitical events, energy markets, and regional equity performance.
