Dow's Losing Streak: Longest Since Early 2023

Share:

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is experiencing its longest weekly losing streak since February 2023, closing down 1.0% at 45,577. The broader S&P 500 fell 1.5% to 6,506, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.0% to 21,647. All three benchmarks have now notched a fourth straight week of losses.

The market's decline is attributed to escalating tensions in the Middle East and rising oil prices, which have clouded the outlook for interest rates. The small-cap Russell 2000 also took a hit, falling 2.3% and entering correction territory, defined as a 10% drop from its most recent high.

Adding to market woes, Super Micro Computer (SMCI) experienced a significant plunge, dropping 33.3% after one of its co-founders was charged with smuggling billions of dollars worth of servers containing Nvidia chips to China. These chips were subject to strict U. S. export controls. The Dow is currently down 2.11% this week. This also marks the biggest four-week point and percentage decline since April 2025.

The Dow is off 9.19% from its record close of 50,188.14 hit on February 10, 2026. Investors are closely watching these developments, as the market navigates geopolitical uncertainties and sector-specific challenges.
