Anthropic's Claude Code Leaks, Iran Threatens Tech Firms

Share:

Anthropic is in damage control mode after an internal packaging error led to the leak of source code related to Claude Code, its AI-powered coding assistant. The company confirmed that an internal-use file was mistakenly included in a software update, exposing nearly 2,000 files and 500,000 lines of code. While Anthropic claims no sensitive customer data was exposed, the incident raises concerns about trust and internal security. Competitors may gain insights into Claude Code's inner workings. This is the second data leak for Anthropic in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, tensions in the Middle East are impacting the tech world as Iran threatens to target U. S. technology companies. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that it would consider 18 tech firms, including Apple, Google, Meta, and Microsoft, as "legitimate targets" in retaliation for recent attacks. The IRGC advised employees and residents near these companies' facilities in the region to evacuate.

The threat follows reported Iranian strikes on Amazon Web Services facilities earlier in the month. The IRGC alleges the targeted companies are responsible for enabling high-tech warfare against Iran. Some experts believe the scope of "legitimate targets" could expand to include cloud-based services linked to Israel, impacting firms like Palantir, IBM, Nvidia, and Oracle.

The U. S. government has stated it will defend the threatened companies. These developments add another layer of complexity to an already volatile tech landscape, creating uncertainty for investors and raising questions about security and geopolitical risk.
