Claude Sonnet 5 represents a notable step forward from its predecessor, Sonnet 4.6, exhibiting marked improvements in critical areas such as reasoning, coding proficiency, and knowledge retrieval. Anthropic reports that Sonnet 5's performance closely rivals that of its higher-tier Opus 4.8 model, while maintaining a more accessible price point. The new model is now available across all subscription tiers, serving as the default for Claude's Free and Pro plans. Team and Enterprise users can access Sonnet 5 through Claude Code and the Claude Platform. Anthropic has introduced introductory pricing for Sonnet 5 at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, valid until August 31, 2026. Following this introductory period, the standard pricing will be $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens.
