Share:

Anthropic has officially released Claude Sonnet 5, the newest iteration of its mid-tier artificial intelligence model. The company announced the upgrade today, highlighting its enhanced capabilities in autonomous operations, including planning, tool utilization, and coding. This advanced model is designed to perform complex tasks that previously required more powerful and expensive AI systems.

Claude Sonnet 5 represents a notable step forward from its predecessor, Sonnet 4.6, exhibiting marked improvements in critical areas such as reasoning, coding proficiency, and knowledge retrieval. Anthropic reports that Sonnet 5's performance closely rivals that of its higher-tier Opus 4.8 model, while maintaining a more accessible price point. This makes it a compelling option for both individual users and enterprise clients looking for advanced AI solutions without the premium cost.

The new model is now available across all subscription tiers, serving as the default for Claude's Free and Pro plans. Team and Enterprise users can access Sonnet 5 through Claude Code and the Claude Platform. Anthropic has introduced introductory pricing for Sonnet 5 at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, valid until August 31, 2026. Following this introductory period, the standard pricing will be $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens.

Anthropic also emphasized the model's improved safety features, noting a reduction in undesirable behaviors compared to previous versions. The company is positioning Sonnet 5 as a key offering as it continues to develop its AI technologies and pursue a potential initial public offering.
